Where to find luggage storage in Montgomery
Our BagDrop network covers the areas where visitors spend the most time. Here's the breakdown:
Dexter Avenue and Downtown
Dexter Avenue is the spine of downtown Montgomery. It runs straight from the Alabama State Capitol building down to Court Square, and it's lined with history at every block. The Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church sits right on this stretch. The Rosa Parks Library and Museum is nearby. So is the Civil Rights Memorial Center designed by Maya Lin. This is where most visitors start, and it's the worst place to be weighed down by bags. The sidewalks are narrow, the museums have bag policies, and you want to be focused on what you're seeing, not your suitcase.
Old Alabama Town
Old Alabama Town is a living history village a few blocks north of the Capitol. It's a collection of restored 19th-century buildings including a one-room schoolhouse, a cotton gin, a church, and original homes. You walk through the grounds at your own pace and it's all outdoors or in small buildings with narrow doorways. Bags are just going to get in the way. Drop them at a BagDrop nearby and take your time.
The Riverfront and Riverwalk
Montgomery's riverfront along the Alabama River has been redeveloped with a nice amphitheatre, walking trails, and a handful of restaurants and bars. Riverfront Park is a popular spot for festivals and outdoor concerts. The Harriott II riverboat docks here too. It's a pleasant area for a stroll or a meal, and it connects to the downtown core. Much easier to enjoy when you're not rolling luggage over brick paths.
Hank Williams Museum and Commerce Street
The Hank Williams Museum sits on Commerce Street downtown and houses the actual 1952 Cadillac that Williams died in, along with personal items, stage outfits, and recordings. It's a small museum but packed with memorabilia. Commerce Street also has shops and cafes worth browsing. If you're doing a music pilgrimage through the South, this is a key stop, and it's easier to browse without bags in tow.
Alabama State Capitol and Government District
The Alabama State Capitol sits at the top of Dexter Avenue on Goat Hill and it's a beautiful building with a long history. The surrounding blocks house government offices, monuments, and the First White House of the Confederacy. Visitors come here for tours and photos, and security at the Capitol means bags will slow you down at the entrance. Leave them at a BagDrop and walk the grounds freely.
