Peace Tower

Parliament Hill is also home to Ottawa’s highest point - the Peace Tower. Standing at 98 meters tall, the Peace Tower observation deck offers stunning unfiltered views over Ottawa and is well worth a visit. Gifted to Canada by the United Kingdom in 1927, the original Peace Tower clock no longer works but it can be seen by visitors on display in the observation deck. Intricate stone carvings decorate the exterior walls of the tower, which include fanciful gargoyles and grotesques - a must-see for any architecture lover after you store your luggage.

Rideau Canal

Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Rideau Canal is an unmissable experience during your visit to Ottawa. This farmer’s market is considered the number one most popular tourist destination in Ottawa and is open all year long! In the summer months, it receives over 50,000 visitors each weekend, so if you’re looking to avoid the crowds, it’s best to visit during the week. Local growers and artisans sell their fresh produce and handmade goods, while the area around the market is home to a variety of restaurants and cafes. The indoor section is open all year round, but if you’re hoping to catch the outdoor market, the best time to visit is May to October. Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica

This historic cathedral is the perfect place to explore if you’re interested in Ottawa’s religious history. Looking for a faster way to traverse Ottawa? You can take a ride on the O-Train. This light rail system runs north to south through the city, with stops at many of Ottawa’s major attractions.

If you want to explore Ottawa at your own pace after you securely store your luggage, there’s the option to rent a bicycle. Bike paths criss-cross the city, making it easy to get around without having to worry about traffic.
