    Where can I store luggage in Tulum?

    Tulum is the place where Maya ruins sit on a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, and honestly, the photos don't do it justice. The archaeological site is right on the coast, with crumbling stone temples framed by turquoise water and white sand below. It's one of the most photographed spots in Mexico, and when you see it in person you'll understand why. The ruins alone make the trip worthwhile, but Tulum has a lot more going on.

    The beach hotel zone stretches along a single road south of the ruins, lined with boutique hotels, beach clubs, yoga studios, and restaurants that range from rustic taco stands to high-end dining. The cenotes around Tulum are legendary. Gran Cenote, Cenote Dos Ojos, Casa Cenote, and dozens more offer some of the clearest, most surreal swimming you'll ever experience. Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve is a UNESCO site just south of town with mangroves, lagoons, and wildlife you won't see anywhere else. And Tulum Pueblo, the actual downtown, has grown into its own scene with restaurants, bars, and a more local, less polished vibe than the beach strip.

    Tulum Pueblo (downtown)

    Tulum Pueblo is the actual town, built along the main highway (Avenida Tulum) about 3 kilometres inland from the beach. This is where you'll find the ADO bus station, taco joints, grocery stores, bike rental shops, and a growing number of restaurants and bars. The pueblo is more affordable and more local than the beach zone, and it's where a lot of budget travellers and digital nomads base themselves. If you arrived by bus or colectivo, a BagDrop in the pueblo lets you drop your stuff right away and head to the beach or ruins without backtracking.

    Beach hotel zone

    The beach zone runs along a single road (the Boca Paila road) from the T-junction south toward Sian Ka'an. It's lined with boutique hotels, beach clubs, restaurants, and yoga studios. The road is sandy, there are no sidewalks in most stretches, and getting around is mainly by bike or taxi. Dragging a roller bag down this road is genuinely awful.     Tulum ruins area

    The Tulum archaeological site is on the coast at the north end of the beach zone. There's a parking area with shops and restaurants, and from there it's a walk (or a short shuttle ride) to the ruins entrance. The site itself involves walking on uneven ground in the sun, and there's a small beach below the cliffs that you can swim at. Bags are a liability at the ruins.     Cenote corridor

    The cenotes near Tulum are spread along the highway and side roads between the pueblo and Coba. Gran Cenote is the most famous and it's just a few minutes from town. Cenote Dos Ojos, Cenote Calavera, and Casa Cenote are all within easy reach. Most cenotes have basic changing areas and lockers for small valuables, but they're not set up for full luggage.     Sian Ka'an starts where the beach road ends, south of the hotel zone. This UNESCO-protected reserve covers over a million acres of wetlands, mangroves, and Caribbean coastline. Tours usually involve boats, kayaks, and floating down canals. You need to travel light for these tours, and there's nowhere to store luggage at the reserve entrance.     Cancun International Airport (CUN)

    CUN is the closest major airport, about 90 minutes to two hours north of Tulum by car or bus. The airport has some luggage storage but it's a long way from Tulum.
